When Peter Drucker stated fifty years ago “Human Resources personnel always seem to feel that they lack status in their organization,” the role of the HR was restricted to mere employee management. Over the years their focus shifted to the relationship between the employees and the management. From managing employee relations, stress and conflict to ensuring low attrition rates the HR professionals had to play the role of a cultural cop.
We are very satisfied with imorfus from i-Vista Digital Solutions as our intranet for more than a year now. It has a good look and feel, took a relatively short time for the system to be up and running, and the maintenance costs are reasonably low. We have also had a few small applications built over the system which has worked well for our user community.

Together, We Can.

Recession is one word that’s on everyone’s lips. And the resulting decline in business gains, is on most Managers’ minds. Against the background of a global economic crisis, IT Managers and Business Managers are facing budget cuts and the daunting prospect of doing more with less. Significant cuts in resources mean that IT and business teams are having a tough time managing and supporting the needs of customers (internal and external), business partners and suppliers from different regional or even global locations.

As the recession deepens, it’s obvious why enterprises are trying to adapt and improvise. While some are looking for lifelines, others are searching for smarter ways to take advantage of the present market scenario. And to lead in these times, quicker turnaround time and better performance together hold the key. One easy way to get closer to achieve that is through Effective Internal Collaboration.

Today, Effective Internal Collaboration is pretty much the order of the day to increase productivity. In addition to many initiatives, it can also be achieved by utilizing the resources more efficiently and sharing knowledge that in many instances remains untapped.

It’s interesting to note here that this need to embrace Employee Collaboration in a greater way was endorsed by the Chief Executive Officer of Cisco - Mr. John Chambers. Speaking at the ongoing Nasscom India Leadership Forum 2009 in Mumbai, Mr. Chambers made an aggressive pitch for greater investment by companies in collaboration tools as a way to tide over the recession. And to also come out of it better prepared than competition.

The future, he stressed, was about communities. And he highlighted the critical role played by collaboration and Web 2.0 tools in creating communities. He also pointed that in Cisco, telepresence solutions obviated the need for travel leading to dramatically reduced costs. He also noted that the extent of business related blogging among Cisco employees had risen sharply in the past one year. And Mr. Chambers felt that it improved businesses processes, which in his opinion is sometimes more important than innovation.

Honestly, the point is this- if Cisco did, you too can! In order to enable, enhance, and encourage Employee Collaboration it takes a little more than sheer will. It needs an optimal utilization of your Intranet. Leading to improved communications, better employee engagement, faster time-to-market, and efficient business processes that lead to enhanced employee productivity leading to healthy collaboration that in turn leads to motivation. And the result of a motivated team is organizational growth. Now isn’t that something you can always do with? Yes, you do!
